What you need

Ingredients (4 servings)

For the crispy tofu :

1 454 g packet Unisoya tofu

½ cup cornstarch

Garlic salt, to taste

Ground pepper

Vegetable oil for frying

For the sauce :

¼ cup soy sauce

3 tablespoons rice vinegar

2 tablespoons maple syrup

2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

1 teaspoon Sambal Oelek

1 tablespoon sesame oil

2 cloves garlic, chopped

2 tablespoons fresh ginger, chopped

2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed in ¼ cup water

For the garnish :

2 green onions

Sesame seeds

How to proceed

Cut tofu block into cubes. Coat evenly with cornstarch, garlic salt and pepper.

Heat a small amount of vegetable oil in a non-stick pan. When hot, add the first cube to check if the oil is ready. Add the remaining cubes. Fry over medium-low heat until crisp and golden. Set aside in paper towels.

In a container, mix soy sauce ingredients with Sambal Oelek.

In a separate skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute.

Add the liquid mixture and bring to the boil.

Reduce heat and stir in cornstarch mixture to thicken. Stir until a thick sauce is obtained.

Add the fried tofu cubes to the pan with the sauce and gently coat the pieces.

Serve with basmati or jasmine rice and a sautéed green vegetable.

Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Enjoy your meal!
