Classic Tofu Cheeseburger

Cheeseburger au tofu

What You Need (6 servings)

 

Tofu (makes 6 dumplings):

A package of Unisoya tofu

2/3 cup breadcrumbs

2 eggs

1 teaspoon steak spice

1 teaspoon garlic powder

10-15 sprigs chives

1 grated carrot

2 tablespoons maple syrup

1 teaspoon Worcestershire

½ cup shredded mozzarella

Salt

Ground pepper

canola oil

 

6 toasted burger buns

2 tomatoes, sliced

A few lettuce leaves

Sliced cheddar cheese

Pickles

 

Crispy Fried Onions:

2 onions

About ½ cup milk

About ½ cup flour

canola oil

 

The instructions:

Peel the onion, cut it in half and thinly slice it. Detach the pieces and put them in the milk.

Heat the oil in a skillet. Flour the onions before putting them into hot oil. Fry them until crispy and

golden in color without overcooking. Drain the onions and place them on a absorbent paper. Salt them.

Crumble the tofu and place it in a large bowl. Add remaining ingredients, except cheese. Once the mixture is almost homogeneous, even sticky, add the shredded cheese.

Shape 6 balls and then flatten them, taking care to respect the size of your buns.

Pour the vegetable oil into a large skillet and heat to a medium temperature.

Add the patties to the grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are cooked and golden. Place the slices of cheese on the top, at the end to melt.

On the bun, place the lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, patty then the onions.

Serve with fries and your favorite condiments (mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise …)
